Mastering Being in Love

We are either in fear or in love. Love and fear cannot be in the same space at the same time. Like a deer in a blinding light, fear immobilises us. When the fear takes over, we freeze; we react. The response can be inappropriate, futile and ineffective. How then do we master love?

Love begins with us. It begins with a deep seated love we have for our whole entire being.

First connect and rediscover the love that is innately within us, then loving others will flow naturally. Commit to the journey and follow some simple steps. Amongst many methods out there, I would recommend this simple one - a meditation known as Atisha’s Heart Meditation. Do it repeatedly anytime and anywhere and see the results.

The seat of love lies within our heart centre. The heart is amazing. It can take all the pain and suffering and transform that into love. It keeps us in flow and connected to others. When you’re ready to give up pain, give this meditation a go. The Tibetan Tantra master, Atisha taught this meditation.

You can do this meditation anywhere and at any time. You can be flexible with it. Here are the steps:

Find a place to sit quietly and comfortably.

Bring awareness to your heart centre. You can use your hand/hands if necessary to give you that connection.

Allow your Unconscious mind to assist you with this exercise. Your Unconscious Mind is your Database of all of your life’s experiences and memories. You will be reminded of the ‘hot’ topics at hand, the ones that are calling for resolution now.

Breathe that suffering into your heart.

As you breathe out allow the love from your heart to spread out to your environment.

Do this meditation for 20 minutes. You can do it for longer if you wish (40 minutes).

Continue to call upon your Unconscious Mind to bring issues to the surface.

Commit to doing this for 7 days.

After 7 days, you can continue to do this meditation for another 7 days. This time breathe in suffering of your family and loved ones.

When you have completed the 7 days, go on for another 7 days. This time breathe in the suffering of humanity and the collective.

Any transformation, requires time and discipline. Do the exercise and see what happens. Be open to the process and become love itself.

The enlightened master, Osho said: “This is the method of compassion: drink in all the suffering and pour out all the blessings. You will be surprised if you do it. The moment you take all the sufferings of the world inside you, they are no longer sufferings. The heart immediately transforms the energy. The heart is a transforming force: drink in misery, and it is transformed into blissfulness… then pour it out. Once you have learned that your heart can do this magic, this miracle, you would like to do it again and again.”
